Folsom, Sacramento County
Folsom grew up in the Gold Rush, and Sutter Street still has its nineteenth-century storefronts. The first railroad in California reached the town from Sacramento in 1856. In 1895 the Folsom Powerhouse began sending electricity 22 miles to the capital, one of the earliest long-distance transmissions in the country, and the old plant is preserved as a state historic park.
